Recycled runway: Op Shop Ball 2024

The 2024 Op Shop Ball held on last Friday was a fun-filled event that brought together youth groups across the top of the South.

As guests arrived at St Barnabas in Stoke, they were greeted by the foyer decked out with streamers and balloons. The event kicked off at 7pm and quickly built into a lively atmosphere. Throughout the night, people were treated to a variety of activities, making sure there was something for everyone.

One of the highlights of the evening was the photo booth, run by Brad Wood. Guests enjoyed showing off their outfits and having their pictures taken with their friends. There was also a quieter games room for people to relax and take time away from the bustling atmosphere.

The live youth band, “Seeds Among Weeds”, took to the stage, bringing energy and excitement. Their setlist included many popular hits which the crowd loved. Singer, Jesse, describes the song Valerie as his favourite to perform, saying “it's a classic and hype to dance to.”

The Op Shop Ball also served as a runway for some truly stunning outfits, from funky jumpsuits and chilli costumes to ball dresses and suits. The creativity and elegance displayed throughout the night enabled everyone to showcase their own style.

One of the most memorable moments was the iconic octoball tournament, which saw both youth and leaders showcasing their competitive spirit to become this year's champions. This brought together the youth groups to support their players and created an additional level of excitement within the night.

Overall, the Op Shop Ball was a huge success, filled with laughter, music and connection. As the night came to a close, everyone left with smiles on their faces and excited chatter for what's to come next year.
